The Medway Youth Council held its February full council during the half term break. This meeting begun with a talk from Alex Hyne, former Medway Youth Parliament Chair, he gave a talk to the youth council on his own experience with the Medway Youth Parliament from several years ago. He also discussed his apprenticeship at Medway Council, before he also became a Magistrate. We were pleased to hear his praise of how diverse MYC has become since his time at the youth parliament.
Some members also received certificates organised by the Chair in recognition of their outstanding contribution to the youth council. This offered chance to reflect on those which have had a big impact at the youth council.
We organised into sub groups to begin tackling our conference objectives. Our report will shortly be delivered to Medway Council’s Children & Young People’s Overview & Scrutiny meeting which will be a chance to raise the views of young people to councillors and decision makers.
It was also announced that the Medway Youth Council will host an event on Sunday 31st March at Woodlands Youth Centre to celebrate 20 years of the establishment of the organisation. We look forward to welcoming back those from previous generations of the youth council.
